Looking back to the good old days when celebrations of Independence Day were held nationwide on 31 August annually. This year is a tad different than usual as we are leading a new normal ever since COVID-19 pandemic. But let’s not allow this pandemic become an excuse to stop us from celebrating it.
Why do we celebrate it?
It commemorates the Malayan Declaration of Independence on 31 August 1957, to mark the day Malaysia is free from British colonial administration.
“Malaysia Prihatin” unveiled as the theme of 2021 Malaysia National Day in honour of all Malaysian citizens who came together to confront the hardships of the COVID-19 pandemic.
How do we celebrate it?
Take part in the annual National Day parade.
It is often celebrated with National Day parade with decorated cars, royal inspection, flag raising, recitation of the ‘Rukun Negara,’ and cultural and patriotic performances. Watch the parade on the field or on television.
Decorate your home and car with flags.
